bookBANFF Finalist!

We're pleased to announce that Crossing the Ditch was selected as one of only 8 finalists in the Adventure Travel writing category of the The Banff Mountain Book Festival! This Canadian festival is the largest of its kind in the world that celebrates books on themes of adventure, exploration, culture, environment, and extreme sports. It has become one of the most prestigious honours in the genre and in 2009 attracting 101 entries from 10 countries.

This is a huge honor and we're both absolutely stoked!

Hawkesbury Canoe Classic

Last Saturday (and Sunday morning) I (Justin) took part in the overnight 111km kayak race down the Hawkesbury river. What an absolute blast! I paddled the race with good friend, Phil Harmer – in fact he was the one that convinced me to ‘hunt’ the river with him.

It was the fourth time that I’ve completed in the Hawkesbury Classic and proved to be the easiest attempt yet. Even with the distinct lack of training…again! If there is one thing body knows how to do and how to do well…it’s paddle!!

After an absolute flyer of a start 10km in, we were sitting very pretty; 4th and 5th in our class respectively. Unfortunately as I was happily plotting our assault on the front 3, Phil was not quite having the paddle we’d planned for. The combination of the ultra fast start, a long couple of weeks and a really strong tide against us meant that Phil was in for a long night!

I stuck with him the rest of the night and although really felt I could have done a very quick time (close to 10hrs), I was extremely glad I stuck by Phil and had a really good night all in all. We ended up crossing the line just after 12.20,but next year will be a different story…

mipcom_logoMIPCOM

At the start of this month, the “Crossing the Ditch” documentary went off to the MIPCOM sales festival at Cannes. MIPCOM is the worlds biggest sale fair for TV shows, series, documentaries and films. We decided to change the name for pitching purposes to “62 days at Sea”. As much we love the name “Crossing the Ditch”, the rationale behind the name switch is that a non Australian/New Zealander general public wouldn’t know what the “ditch” is! They’d probably think it was a show about tractors if they read it in the TV guide!!

We had a lot of very positive interest from the fair but the real results won’t be known till a couple of weeks time – fingers crossed…
